Why Cash on Delivery Still Matters for Dropshipping in Pakistan

Why Cash on Delivery Still Matters for Dropshipping in Pakistan

When I first started setting up my store, I assumed payment methods were a minor detail — something to configure once and forget about. I was wrong. For a store targeting Pakistani customers, Cash on Delivery (COD) isn't a nice-to-have option. It's often the difference between a completed sale and an abandoned cart.

Why Pakistani Buyers Prefer COD

Online shopping in Pakistan has grown a lot, but trust in prepaid online payment is still catching up. Many buyers are hesitant to pay upfront to a store they've never bought from before — especially a small, new one. Cash on Delivery removes that risk entirely: the customer only pays once the product physically arrives at their door.

For a new dropshipping store with no reviews or reputation yet, this matters even more. COD lets a first-time visitor take a chance on your store without needing to fully trust you yet.

What I Actually Tested on My Own Store

Instead of just assuming COD was working, I went through my own checkout process myself, as if I were a real customer. A few things I specifically checked:

  • Is COD actually visible as a payment option at checkout, not buried or missing
  • Does the shipping cost match what was advertised, with no surprise fees appearing at the final step
  • Is the checkout form simple — just the essentials like name, phone number, and address, without unnecessary extra fields that could cause someone to abandon partway through

Going through this myself, step by step, helped me catch potential friction points before real customers ever ran into them.

COD Isn't Just a Payment Setting — It's a Trust Signal

Beyond the technical setup, offering COD clearly and prominently on your product page (not just hidden in the checkout) acts as a trust signal on its own. When a visitor sees "Cash on Delivery Available" clearly stated, it lowers the perceived risk of buying from a store they don't know yet.

What I'd Tell Any Beginner

If you're building a store for Pakistani customers, don't treat COD as an afterthought. Set it up early, and more importantly, test it yourself the way a real customer would — all the way to the final checkout screen. It's a small step that can quietly make or break your conversion rate.

I'm still in the process of getting my own first real sale, but going through this process taught me that removing friction matters just as much as getting traffic in the first place.
